Amaal Mallik

Amaal Mallik is an Indian music composer, singer, songwriter and music producer known for his work in Bollywood film music and independent Indian pop. Born in Mumbai into a musical family, he is the son of composer Daboo Malik, grandson of veteran composer Sardar Malik and elder brother of singer Armaan Malik. Amaal entered Hindi cinema as a composer with Salman Khan’s Jai Ho in 2014 and subsequently developed a distinctive career built around romantic melodies, contemporary pop arrangements and emotionally driven film compositions. His work on songs such as Sooraj Dooba Hain, Main Hoon Hero Tera, Soch Na Sake, Kaun Tujhe, Sab Tera, Sau Aasmaan and Roke Na Ruke Naina helped establish him among the prominent Bollywood composers of his generation. Alongside composing for films, Amaal has worked as a singer, producer and background-score composer, allowing him to develop a catalogue that ranges from romantic ballads and acoustic melodies to energetic commercial pop and contemporary film soundtracks.

Amaal Mallik began his Bollywood career as a music composer with Jai Ho in 2014, composing three songs for the Salman Khan film before working on “Naina” from Khoobsurat. His major breakthrough followed with Roy, particularly “Sooraj Dooba Hain,” performed by Arijit Singh and Aditi Singh Sharma, which became one of the defining Bollywood songs of 2015. Amaal subsequently composed music for films including Hero, Airlift, Kapoor & Sons, M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story, Baar Baar Dekho, Badrinath Ki Dulhania, Kabir Singh and Saina. Songs including “Main Hoon Hero Tera,” “Soch Na Sake,” “Kaun Tujhe,” “Sab Tera,” “Sau Aasmaan” and “Roke Na Ruke Naina” expanded his reputation for melody-focused Bollywood music. His career has also included independent singles, playback singing and background scoring, while collaborations with singers such as Arijit Singh, Armaan Malik, Shreya Ghoshal, Tulsi Kumar and Neeti Mohan have connected his compositions with some of the most recognizable voices in contemporary Indian film music.

Amaal Mallik’s musical style combines contemporary Bollywood film music with Indian pop, romantic ballads, electronic production, acoustic arrangements and elements of R&B and orchestral film scoring. Melody is a particularly important part of his compositions, with many of his best-known songs built around memorable vocal lines and emotionally expressive arrangements rather than overly complex production. Romantic compositions such as “Kaun Tujhe,” “Soch Na Sake” and “Sab Tera” demonstrate his softer melodic approach, while tracks such as “Sooraj Dooba Hain” and “Kar Gayi Chull” represent the more energetic and commercial side of his catalogue. His ability to compose for different vocalists and film situations has allowed him to move between intimate romantic songs, dance-oriented tracks, motivational compositions and cinematic background music while maintaining a recognizable contemporary Bollywood sound.

Amaal Mallik has received major recognition for his work as a Bollywood music composer, with one of his most important early achievements coming through the soundtrack of Roy. At the 61st Filmfare Awards, Amaal Mallik shared the Best Music award for Roy with Ankit Tiwari, Meet Bros. and Anjjan, while “Sooraj Dooba Hain,” composed by Amaal and sung by Arijit Singh and Aditi Singh Sharma, became one of the most prominent songs associated with the film. He later shared another Filmfare Best Music Album honor as part of the multi-composer team behind Kabir Singh, further strengthening his position within mainstream Hindi film music. His work on Saina also received a Filmfare nomination for Best Music Album. Beyond awards, Amaal’s achievements include composing numerous widely recognized Bollywood songs, working with leading playback singers and developing a career that extends across film composition, independent music, playback singing, music production and background scoring.
