Keerthi Sagathia

Keerthi Sagathia, also spelled Kirti Sagathia, is an Indian playback singer and musician known for his distinctive voice and versatile performances across Bollywood, Indian folk and contemporary music. Born on 14 September 1979 in Mumbai, Maharashtra, he comes from a family deeply connected with Gujarati folk music. His father, Karsan Sagathia, is a renowned Gujarati folk singer.

Growing up in a musical family gave Keerthi an early introduction to traditional music. He later developed a style that combines his folk roots with contemporary playback singing, Sufi influences, rock, pop and experimental music.

Keerthi gained national exposure as a contestant on the television reality show Fame Gurukul. He subsequently established himself as a playback singer and worked with leading Indian composers, including A.R. Rahman, Ram Sampath, Vishal-Shekhar, Sachin-Jigar and others.

His notable songs and playback contributions include “Beera” from Raavan, “Nakkadwaley Disco Udhaarwaley Khisko” from Delhi Belly, “Tum Tak” from Raanjhanaa, “Mujh Mein Tu” from Special 26, “Rabba” from Fukrey, “Mannat” from Daawat-e-Ishq and “Shubh Din” from Parmanu: The Story of Pokhran.

Alongside film music, Keerthi Sagathia has maintained a strong connection with Gujarati folk music and has continued to explore independent and folk-fusion projects. His powerful vocal style and ability to move between traditional and contemporary genres have made him a distinctive voice in Indian music.

Keerthi Sagathia’s musical journey was strongly influenced by his father, celebrated Gujarati folk singer Karsan Sagathia, and by the traditional folk-music environment in which he grew up.

He gained wider public attention after participating in Fame Gurukul in 2005. Before establishing himself as a Bollywood playback singer, he also worked on advertising jingles and developed experience working with professional composers and musicians.

His association with A.R. Rahman’s music introduced his voice to a much larger audience. He contributed to “Mayya Mayya” from Guru and later performed on songs connected with films including Raavan, Enthiran and Raanjhanaa.

Keerthi went on to work with several prominent composers and delivered songs including “Nakkadwaley Disco Udhaarwaley Khisko” from Delhi Belly, “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” from Shanghai, “Mujh Mein Tu” from Special 26, “Rabba” from Fukrey, “Tum Tak” from Raanjhanaa, “Mannat” from Daawat-e-Ishq and “Shubh Din” from Parmanu: The Story of Pokhran.

His work is not limited to film playback. He has continued to celebrate his Gujarati folk heritage through live performances and folk-fusion projects while also releasing independent music.

Keerthi Sagathia has received recognition for his work as an Indian playback singer. He won the Mirchi Music Award for Upcoming Male Vocalist of the Year for “Beera” from the film Raavan. The song was composed by A.R. Rahman.

He later received further recognition for his contribution to the title song of Satyamev Jayate, which won recognition in the Indie Pop category at the Mirchi Music Awards.

In 2016, Keerthi Sagathia was nominated for the Filmfare Award South for Best Male Playback Singer – Telugu for “Neeku Theliyanida” from the film Kanche.

Beyond formal awards, his career includes collaborations with many prominent Indian music composers and popular playback songs across Hindi and regional Indian cinema. His continued work in Gujarati folk music has also helped him carry his family’s traditional musical heritage into contemporary performances.
